This classroom based course develops the knowledge to plan, specify, witness and sign off hydrostatic pressure tests to WIS 4-01-03 (PE / PE-Barrier) and IS EN 805 (non-viscoelastic) on Uisce Éireann projects whilst ensuring testing is carried out safely and correctly on site.
Course Content
- Standards Framework - WIS 4-01-03 (PE), IS EN 805 (non-viscoelastic), Uisce Éireann COP.
- Why Pressure Test? - what testing can / can't prove; environmental and contractual drivers.
- Common Leak Locations & Root Causes - EF joints, mechanical / flanged joints, dismantling joints, saddles/BBs, air valves, flange adaptors, spigot–socket joints, structural damage.
- Pipe Materials & Ratings - PE (incl. barrier / protective skin), PVC, ductile iron, steel; PN / SDR, PFA / PEA.
- Key Terminology & Pressure Definitions - STP / MDP, PFA / PEA, static head, operating pressure.
- Equipment & Calibration - pumps and sizing; data loggers, gauges, flow meters; manifolds, plates / fittings; swabs; hydrants / AVs / check valves; measurement kit.
- Planning the Test Section - method selection, section choice, isolation / blanking, anchoring / backfilling, water logistics.
- Air Removal & Thermal Stability - filling strategy, swabbing procedure and don'ts, alternative venting, stability logging.
- PE (WIS 4-01-03) Test Procedures - rise time, raised pressure, pre-pressurisation rules, execution steps.
- PE Data Logging & Analysis - reading logger plots, % air methods, slope (n) / creep-time analysis, acceptance criteria, pass / fail examples.
- Reporting Requirements - test report content and typical report outputs.
- Replacement Sections (10-Minute Test) - equipment, procedure, analysis, pass / fail, example graphs.
- Service Connections - procedure and reporting.
- IS EN 805 (Non-Viscoelastic) Testing - overview, STP rules, choice of test section, end forces; components/equipment; phases: preliminary, pressure-drop (air check), main tests (pressure loss, water loss, water added) incl. calculations and temperature stability.
- Post-Test Actions - steps following testing.
- Safety - general and equipment safety; incident case study.
- Wrap-Up - useful links, course assessment.
Course Duration: 1 day (8 hours)
Assessment: 30-min course assessment (20 Qs; 16 to pass)
